Online Study Funding Options

We collect information from Financial Management Office and list those specifically applicable to the BRITE community. We sort the information by the types of payment that may occur in BRITE Lab studies.

Regardless of the types below, all payments to research participants should follow Policy and Procedures 103.

1. Type A: One-time gift card payment of less than $25 dollars. *Not recommended

Follow 350 Gift Card Policy.

Policy highlights:

Maximum gift card value is $25.
Variable payment not available for this option.
Only one gift card can be given to one recipient each year. This will use up the pool very quickly.
Gift cards cannot be given to Non-Resident Aliens.

Process:

Obtain pre-approval from the Divisional Business Office via the Purchasing Card Gift Card Approval Form.
Researchers should use a Gift Card Recipient Log to document the name and contact information of each gift card recipient.

2. Type B: Pay gift card for a study that is for less than one year. *Recommended

Take Custodian Funds- Temporary Funds.

Process:

Obtain a unique NR number from the NR Number Generator.
Complete Custodian Fund Request Form, Custodian Fund Budget Form and Custodian Fund Agreement Form.
Researcher routes the signed forms to Dean/Director's office. (Justin?)
Dean/Director's office verifies information and sends the original forms to Cash Management Office (cstdnfnd@bussvc.wisc.edu).
Cash Management Office issues a check to researcher.
Researcher pays participant in ways that they see fit.
Researcher should maintain a research participant log.

3. Type C: Pay for a study that is for more than one year.

Take Custodian Funds- Replenishable Checking Account.
